With a streak of three consecutive wins, Hapoel returns tonight (Wednesday) to the European “home” court in Samokov, where they will host Venezia in the seventh round of the EuroCup at 20:00 (live broadcast on “Israel Hayom”). Derek Ogbeide, who recently signed with the team, joined the squad in Bulgaria aiming to take part in tomorrow’s game.

Israeli Ex-Players: Just like in the last two EuroCup games, the Reds will face familiar faces in the upcoming match — this time in the form of former players Xavier Munford, Tyler Ennis, and coach Neven Spahija. Munford played for Hapoel Tel Aviv over the last two years before leaving last summer. This season, he appeared in one game in the first round, starting and scoring 10 points with a plus-minus of +24. Munford now plays alongside Tyler Ennis in the Italian team; Ennis joined the Reds from the center late last season and participated in the playoffs. In the two EuroCup games Ennis played this season, he averaged 17.5 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. As mentioned, the team is coached by our acquaintance Neven Spahija, who coached Maccabi Tel Aviv in two stints and lost to Hapoel’s current sporting director, Dan Shamir, in the 2006/07 State Cup final.

Speedy vs. Munford last season
Venezia is currently eighth in the group with a 2-4 losing record, opposite to Hapoel’s positive record. In their last round, they played an away game in Romania against Cluj, losing 86-78 in a close match where each quarter ended with only a few points difference in favor of the Romanian hosts. Last week, Hapoel played away against Ljubljana and impressively defeated the hosts despite playing with just one big man. Jared Harper scored 30 points and was named MVP of the round for the second time this season. In any case, an interesting battle awaits us tonight in Samokov, Bulgaria.
