Three days before the start of the playoffs, Hapoel ended (Saturday) the regular season with a nice victory. The cup holder, without Speedy Smith and Levi Randolph, already found herself behind by two digits in the second - but switched gears in defense in money time, Made the opponent score only 7 points in the last quarter and beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 71:82 at the Arena.

The difference in the final minutes was made by the energies of Jacorey Williams and Chris Johnson - who blocked the paint, were first to every ball both in defense and attack and infected their teammates with their endless enthusiasm on the way to a later turnaround. More good news was another good performance by Noam Dovrat, who started the season for the first time in the top five and contributed in double figures. On Tuesday, the cup holder will host Hapoel Holon for the first game in the series, currently appearing to be the most intriguing in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Game Process: Hapoel started with Noam Dovrat, Khadin Carrington, Or Cornelius, Nimrod Levi and Jacorey Williams, Hapoel Tel Aviv with Tyler Ennis, Dusty Hanas, Brian Angola, Isaiah Miles O'Kyle Alexander. Williams and Levi gave the host a small advantage, Miles got the Tel Avivians into trouble with shooting from the outside and I gave assists to Hanas and Alexander - but Angola was injured and fell off the floor, Carrington floated in for a big dunk and Chris Johnson completed a turnaround, 9:10 for Hapoel. Yoval Zoosman came off the bench well with two baskets in the paint, Miles stopped the run with a pair of free throws, Trevor Lacey scored from beyond the arc, Manford responded with three free throws and Hanas with the buzzer made it 16:17.

Both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter: Alex Tyus got himself into things with a steal and a basket, Dovrat and Cornelius warmed up and the Hapoel established a small advantage - but Tomer Ginat and Idan Zalmanson came off the bench well on the other side and with the help of Gil Bani they reduced the score to 33:31 in the middle of the quarter. Carrington and Brynton Lamar scored hard shots, Ginat, Hanas and Miles made the score three - but Lamar took care of the red lead at the break, 44:46.

Beni was the man at the beginning of the second half with effective pressure on the ball and five quick points, Levi scored the first field goal but Miles completed a 2:10 run and sent Yonatan Alon to a timeout trailing 54:48. Miles continued the flood to the arc and Manford opened a double-digit gap with an easy basket in the open court, but Williams stopped the escape and Lamar reduced it to 59:52. Beni found Manford at the back door for an easy basket, Lamar reached double digits with a three-pointer, Zalmanson grabbed and ran for a dunk in a burst, Johnson made a three-pointer from the corner and Ginat sealed the quarter with a 58:64 advantage.

Dovrat reached the numbers on a layup in the open court, Zalmanson found Enis for the basket with a wonderful assist, Williams cut half the three-point gap and with a tremendous dunk after two rebounds in the attack reduced the score to 66:65. Johnson completed a turnaround with a hard shot with the board and another easy basket in a burst sent Stephanos Dedas to a timeout, Cornelius closed 11 unanswered points - before Ginat brought it down to 71:68 after a nice move without the ball. Lacey left the layup for an easy dunk, the big man gave him a good return and found him for an open three on the next attack, Manford responded with the same but Cornelius made it 71:79 with a big stepback three entering the last minute. Ginat's loss and Levi's 3-pointer practically closed the story, and Hapoel celebrated a 71:82 win.
