Hapoel loses in Yad Eliyahu

10/03/2024  | Post-Game
Hapoel came to Yad Eliyahu today and lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv 90:78. A good game by Levi Randolph (18 points) was not enough for the reds to overcome the yellows, who came out with the upper hand. About 1,000 red fans came to Menorah Mivathim Hall and pushed their team. On Wednsday, Hapoel will play a "home" game in Szombathely, Hungary, against Peristeri in a game that may guarantee the Reds a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Red is the color

Earlier today, we were informed of the death of Michael Gal in a battle in the southern Gaza Strip. Some of the many hundreds of Hapoel fans who arrived to Yad Eliyahu today, arrived earlier today for his funeral which took place a few hours before the game on Mount Herzl. Michael was one of the team's most loyal fans. The team played today with black ribbons in his memory. May his memory be blessed.

For them. Always for them

Course of the game
1st Quarter

Hapoel made it to the top five with Speedy Smith, Yovel Zoosman, Levi Randolph, Oz Blayzer and Nimrod Levi. The game started hesitantly on the part of both teams when after baskets by Nimrod Levi and Wade Boldwin both teams had trouble finding the ring. The "drought" did not last long and Hapoel managed to return to an offensive rhythm with a three-pointer by Oz Blazyer, while on the other hand Lorenzo Brown leaves the yellows with a small advantage. Chris Johnson and Jacorey Williams who entered gave a significant boost both on the defensive side but mainly in breaking the pressure in the attack. Maccabi finished the quarter with a small run of their own and at the end of the first ten minutes - 16:15 for the yellows.

2nd Quarter

Maccabi opened the second quarter with a storm and took a quick 6 lead, when Chris Johnson stopped the run with an impressive one-and-one move in an explosive attack. Colson and Maccabi went into an offensive flow that Ilias Kantzouris tried to stop in a timeout, after which Levi Randolph stopped the yellow run with a three. The gap grew to a double-digit gap after a considerable amount of free throws that Maccabi received in the referee's decision. Jacorey Williams together with the tightening of the Jerusalem defense led Hapoel to a small reduction of the difference when at the end of the half - 44:37 for Maccabi.

3rd Quarter
Hapoel came out of the halftime break more relaxed, at least on the offensive side and with two triples by Oz Blayzer and Nimrod Levi reduced the difference to only a single position. The Reds continued to tighten the defense and not allow Maccabi easy baskets but got stuck a little on the offensive side and could not change the result. John Diberlotmau scored two three-pointers, restored the advantage to Maccabi and sent the Reds to a timeout. From the timeout, Lorenzo Brown and Levi Randolph returned with one-and-one moves, each for his team. Together with the Jerusalem crowd, and with a tough and intense team defense, the Reds wanted to make explosive attacks and managed to get close to the Yellows. Jacorey Williams presented some excellent coast-to-coast moves when at the end of the quarter - 65:60 for the Yellows.

Oz. More relexed 3rd quarter

4th Quarter

The fourth quarter, although it was expected to be more hesitant and cautious, was only a sign of increasing the pace. Speedy Smith on one side, Tamir Blatt on the other, shot and exchanged threes from side to side. In the middle of the fourth quarter, the Reds lost their offensive rhythm and allowed Maccabi another escape with a double-digit lead. Speedy with a three-pointer reduced the difference a little but on the other side Hapoel had a hard time stopping Maccabi's isolations. The game continued in an equal manner until the end when at the end - Maccabi wins 90:78.
