Playing for them: The fans' tournament in memory of Hapoel's fans

?On Monday, February 12, 2024, a fan basketball tournament will be held at the Malha Hall in Jerusalem in memory of the martyrs of the IDF, Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem fans who fell in the war. The tournament is a joint initiative of the Jerusalem Municipality and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, with the aim of perpetuating their memory of the fallen and to express the commitment of the city and the community of Hapoel Bank Yahav fans to their families.

 

The tournament is part of a series of events and activities by the Jerusalem Municipality and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem to promote basketball in the city and strengthen the bond between the team and its fans. The tournament also expresses the respect and appreciation of the city and the team for the soldiers of the IDF, who fought with courage and devotion to defend the country and the people. During the fighting, 172 soldiers fell, of which 9 were fans of Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem. The tournament will be an opportunity to commemorate them and cherish their contribution to the country and its security.

 

The tournament will start at 17:00 and will include games between groups of fans and friends of the fallen, who will be organized in formations of at least six players. Participation in the tournament is free of charge, and admission to the general public is free. The event will be held in the presence of the families of the fallen, and the minimum age for participation is 18.

 

The Jerusalem Municipality stated: "We are proud to hold a basketball tournament in memory of 9 IDF martyrs, Hapoel Jerusalem fans, who sacrificed their lives and fell in the war for the defense of our homeland. The tournament is for the sake of perpetuating the memory of the dear boys and strengthening the relationship with the families. The Jerusalem Municipality sees great importance and a great right in commemorating the fallen. We invite all residents of the city to participate in the tournament in memory of the dear boys."

 

Hapoel 'Bank Yahav' Jerusalem said: "October 7th reminded us how strong the community of Hapoel Jerusalem is. We will continue to be there for the families and provide them with a supportive framework that can ease, if only a little, the great pain. We will play in their memory, we will play for them." .
